Sports had always been a part of my life, playing basket ball starting as a little kid through four years of college.
Once I left that locker room for the last time, everything changed. The end of that lifestyle hit me hard. As a new graduate out to succeed, move to a new city and start a career, I was so focused on work rather than working out that I neglected myself terribly.
Before I could blink, more than a year had gone by and the energetic, confident, healthy body and attitude had been replaced by embarrassment, self anger, insecurity, and a closet full of cothes that no longer fit. I had always been a strong big girl, now I was just a big girl. So, I joined a gym, and quickly came to the realzation that for me, working out without a team and that give and take of support teams provide, made me feel even more alone and that membership just collected dust. I was starting a new life, I needed a new sport.
I happened to see an advertisement for Cooper's New England Martial Arts at a local restaurant and it just resonated that this would be just what I needed; challenging, intense, focused instruction surrounded by people with common goals. I showed up for my first trial class for Cardio Kickboxing and never looked back. My fears and apprehension were completely eased by the positive feel of the school and the welcoming and helpful people. It didn't feel like a bunch of people who just showed up at the scheduled time to sweat, it was more like a family with each person caring about and motivating each other.
A few months later, I was ready to challenge myself more and I began training in Taekwondo.

The changes both in the strength and conditioning of my body and the improvement in my self confidence and spirit have affected my life immensely. Training is crucial to managing my stress from work adn helping me lose weight. I am happy and excited to go to class everyday and eager to continue to grow as a warrior and build upon the progress I have already made.
The instruction and knowledge I have received from Master Cooper, Miss Yuli, and the other instructors and students about both martial arts and life have helped me get out of the rut I let myself slip into after college. I am also learning an important practical skill for any young woman; self defense. Every day I am improving and learning more about myself and my capabilities through martial arts, to which I owe so much. Thank you.
